Phoenix House Art Exhibition and Documentary
June 20, 2025I’ve spent the past year working with Phoenix House in their Art of Advocacy program. This June we presented UNBOUND—a multimedia art exhibition that showcases the transformative power of creativity in the recovery journey. Featuring work from over 150 individuals, UNBOUND invites visitors to explore the ties that bind us, as well as the radical act of loosening those ties in pursuit of healing and growth.
Alongside this exhibition we also hosted a screening for Community: A Lifeline for a Lifetime, documenting the participants and workshops organized throughout the year. I am very proud to have worked alongside this incredible team creating access to the arts. The documentary video can be found here.
Recovery, like art, is a process of unfolding. It involves loosening the tight knots of past narratives and discovering freedom in the spaces between. UNBOUND presents a collective tapestry of personal stories, artistic exploration, and community resilience. Through ceramics, weaving, stained glass, metalwork, and more, each piece reflects a unique path through recovery—nonlinear, evolving, and deeply human.
This exhibition is the second in a three-year initiative funded by a Building Communities of Recovery (BCOR) grant from SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration). Over the past year, participants engaged in hands-on, accessible workshops in various mediums through The Art of Advocacy program. This program provides a supportive environment where individuals in recovery can challenge old narratives, explore new perspectives and engage with community.
UNBOUND is a celebration of connection, trust, and transformation. It is a reminder that in creating together, we remember we are not alone. In the act of unbinding, we become rewoven—stronger, freer, and more connected than before.
